A bus will pick you up at Starr Pass at 8:30 AM in Starr Circle. See Resort Map. You'll need to be at the pick up spot no later than 8:15 AM.
You will travel the 15 miles (mostly freeway) SE to the Pima Air & Space Museum, a large indoor-outdoor facility adjacent to Davis-Monthan AFB, where you'll take a special tour. Lunch will be served to you in the new food court. From there, you will board a motorcoach for a tour of the vast AMARG aircraft boneyard at DMAFB. Only the Pima A&S tour buses are allowed on the grounds, and you're not allowed to leave the bus. Photography OK.
Next, you'll head for the Titan Missile Museum, a relic of the cold war. In the 1960's and 70's, Tucson was ringed by 18 Titan II nuclear missile silos. This made Tucson a prime target, and air raid sirens were scattered throughout the city. Citizens and schoolchildren were drilled on how to handle a Soviet nuclear attack, as if it would be survivable. The SALT II treaty disarmed the silos, and filled all but this one with concrete. An inert Titan II (Gemini launcher) occupies this silo, and you will be given a special VIP tour of the 8-story underground facility. Admissions paid................Tour Price: $95 SOLD OUT
