OVERVIEW![]() Spacefest IV will be held in Tucson, Arizona, May 30 - June 3, 2012, at the scenic Starr Pass Resort. Spacefest is THE event for the space enthusiast of any stripe-Astronomy;. manned exploration; robotic exploration; commercial space; space history. As 2012 is an election year, we'll be placing special emphasis on the direction of NASA and the quickest road to ending the hiatus in U.S. manned spaceflight. GUIDE FOR NEWBIESGENERAL ADMISSION ($35 daily Fri-Sat-Sun) allows you: Entry to the Arizona ballroom, where astronauts, vendors,& art show are set up. If you imagine the ballroom divided into quarters, vendors are on the right half, and the artists and astronauts are in the left quarters. You can peruse or shop the art show, astronauts and vendors at your convenience. You can also take part in the free talks (most of them.) Consult the program book for subjects and times. MAY 30 & 31 ARE TOUR/GOLF/SETUP DAYS-NO ADMISSION CHARGE ARTISTS, ASTRONAUTS- Most of the artists will be present and some will actually be working at the show on small pieces for sale. The astronauts (upper left quarter), each in their own booth, will have large signs identifying them and their missions. Astronaut's lines may be long or short depending on time of day or popularity. All will sign photos, (for sale at the photo booth) books, models, globes, etc., bought or brought with you. Autograph fees vary, and are posted at each table. Most of them will answer your questions if not too busy, or pose with you for a photo. (ask first) The next person in line will gladly take your camera and take the photo. TALKS $0 or $10-there are three rooms holding our famous talks, all in the Tucson ballroom-Talks 1&2, adjacent to each other, holding about 150 each, and the Big Room (Salon E), which holds 300, and has enhanced A/V. Talk rooms 1&2, are all free, while the Big Room is $10/talk. You can = buy individual talks at $10 ea,. on the spot. See the program book for details on the speakers FOOD EVENTS $185-$325-You can also buy tickets for the Astronaut's Luncheon (#1), Speaker's Luncheon (#2), Gala Banquet dinner, or Sunday Breakfast. Requests to sit with a favorite astronaut or speaker will be honored, depending on availability. TOURS $75-$125 On Tuesday and Wednesday, (before the general sessions) we'll have tours of astronomy-related facilities in the Tucson area. SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTSfor detailed timeline, see SCHEDULEWEDNESDAY MAY 30th, We will have three tours. 1 full-day tour and 2 half-day tours. THURSDAY MAY 31st, we'll have two more tours. One half-day and one full-day, Golf in the morning, also. In the evening is our VIP reception, Art show premiere, and a special presentation by Dr William Hartmann. THIS EVENT IS ONLY OPEN TO UNIVERSAL & GALACTIC TICKET HOLDERS, SPEAKERS, ARTISTS, STAFF, SPONSORS AND VIPS. No a la carte tickets will be sold for this event. FRIDAY JUNE 1st, the "conventional" convention begins, with doors to the Exhibit hall (AZ ballroom) open at 8:30 AM. Talks begin at 8:30 also in the Tucson ballroom, next door. The Astronaut's Luncheon starts at 11:30 with a Mexican food buffet. We'll have talks and panels running into the evening. A limited number of prepaid convention guests will be invited to eat with their chosen astronaut or speaker, depending on availability.SATURDAY JUNE 2nd, Same as above, except the luncheon will be for Speakers,(and fans) and feature an Italian buffet. All day (9:30-5) the Lunar Legacies space memorabilia auction will be happening in the center foyer between the ballrooms. That evening, We will have the banquet, with keynote speaker Andrew Chaikin. following the banquet will be the star party outside on the lawn. SUNDAY JUNE 3rd, Sunday Breakfast, Tucson Ballroom, 7:30 AM, Apollo astronaut panel 9AM, (some) Astronauts signing 11:00-1:00, vendors and art show open 8:30-1:30. |
